American Irish Historical Society

Client: American Irish Historical Society (AIHS) Website: aihsny.org Role: Full-service website design & build Type: Nonprofit / Cultural Institution

Project Overview

The American Irish Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1897 and headquartered in a historic Beaux-Arts mansion on Manhattan’s Museum Mile, needed a website that could serve its dual mission as both a cultural institution and a working archive. The site needed to welcome new visitors, support researchers and scholars, and give the Society a reliable platform to promote its ongoing exhibitions, events, and fundraising efforts.

Scope of Work

  • Designed and built the full website from the ground up, reflecting the Society’s identity as a historic cultural and archival institution
  • Structured content around core visitor needs: About & mission, event listings, archives & research access, membership/donation, tours, and FAQ
  • Built a dynamic events section to support recurring programming (lectures, exhibitions, concerts, and private rentals)
  • Created a donation and membership pathway to support the Society’s fundraising and sustainability goals
  • Developed an FAQ and policies section to set clear expectations for researchers and the public around archive access
  • Ensured the site’s tone and visual design matched the gravity and history of the institution while remaining approachable to first-time visitors

Deliverables

  • Fully designed and developed responsive website
  • Content structure and information architecture for events, archives, membership, and visitor information
  • Ongoing-use framework allowing AIHS staff to update events and announcements independently

Outcome

The finished site gives AIHS a modern, credible online home that matches the significance of its 10,000+ volume archive and its role as a hub for Irish-American history and culture, while making it easier for the public, researchers, and donors to engage with the Society.
